Bordered by San Clemente to the southeast, San Juan Capistrano to the northeast, and Laguna Niguel to the north, Dana Point is an original Southern California beach town that blends the best of luxury amenities with laid-back surf culture.
Here at Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, we have a team of experienced agents who specialize in Dana Point. Doug Echelberger, Bryan Gerlach, and Trey Dewey are some of the experts in the area, and they’re going to share what makes this neighborhood such a special place.
“The community of Dana Point has been going through significant changes over the last decade,” says Doug Echelberger. The downtown area has recently been revitalized, involving removing many of the old buildings and replacing them with new mixed-use commercial-residential structures. This new area is referred to as “The District”, and it was re-designed to make shopping, dining, and entertainment more easily accessible.
However, that’s not all. “One of the biggest projects happening right now is a full revitalization of the Dana Point Harbor,” says Bryan Gerlach. This project includes a complete renovation of the existing marina, parking infrastructure, and demolition of the existing aging retail and shops to make way for the ground-up construction of a new commercial core of retail and restaurant space, hotels, and open space. This project is being worked on by Newport-based developer Burnham Ward, says Trey Dewey.
Additionally, Dana Point recently welcomed the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach which took over and made upgrades to the old Monarch Beach Hotel. “Combined with the Ritz Carlton 1/4 mile away, Dana Point now has a new level of international sophistication to really place it on the map,” says Gerlach.
“I have never seen a local city with so many improvement projects going on at one time. Everywhere you look, there appears to be development going on and improvements being made,” says Echelberger.
In regards to activities, Dana Point offers many different attractions for all ages. “The Dana Point Harbor boasts great local restaurants, retail shops, and attractions such as whale watching and the Ocean Institute,” says Echelberger. The beaches in Dana Point offer unique experiences as well. Dewey says that “Salt Creek Beach is the best beach in town”, and other popular beaches include Doheny State Beach and Dana Strands.
